FC 27 Best Back Three to Stop Through Balls (Tactics Guide)
DESCRIPTION
A back three setup built to stop through balls in FC 27: a Deep defensive approach, Line Height 25, a 3-4-2-1 shape, and how to defend and counter with it.
WHAT IT IS
AI defenders no longer start standing tackles in Competitive play, and their interception reach is shorter than manual defenders. Manual defenders also jockey faster than in FC 26, so your shape and timing matter more.
A back three on a Deep approach shrinks the space behind your line and protects your center-backs. It is not a force field: if a wing-back gets stretched, through balls can still get through.
THE NUMBERS
Start with Deep and Line Height 25 (the default). If runs in behind still beat your center-backs, test a slightly lower value. Reference ranges used in current guides: Deep 1-30 (default 25), Balanced 31-60 (default 50). Confirm the values in your Custom Tactics screen.
THE SHAPE: 3-4-2-1
Three center-backs on Defender - Defend. Two wing-backs, with at least one on Balanced. One holding midfielder on Holding - Defend, and a second central midfielder on Box-to-Box. A Playmaker on Playmaker - Balanced and a Shadow Striker on Shadow Striker - Attack. One Advanced Forward up top.
DEFENDING
Hold the line and do not chase. Keep one wing-back on Balanced, or the back three has no cover wide. Team Press has no effect while the ball is in your own third, so jockey and track runners manually.
ATTACKING
On a turnover, the balanced wing-back is the release valve. When the counter is closed, slow down: pass around the back three and the holding midfielder, then find the Playmaker in a half-space.
HOW TO TEST IT
Give it five to ten Rivals matches before you judge it. Re-test after Title Update 1.2.0, expected in mid-November.
